Overview
AAA tested electric vehicles in hot and cold conditions and found that battery range drops noticeably in cold weather and to a lesser extent in hot weather. Batteries perform best around roughly 65–75°F, so real-world range and charging needs can differ substantially from advertised figures in extreme temperatures. These results matter for buyers and current EV drivers planning trips, charging schedules, and whether to choose fully electric or electrified alternatives.
