A divided U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit ruled that the Justice Department is not entitled to Michigan’s voter registration list containing sensitive voter information. The decision makes the 6th Circuit the first federal appeals court to weigh in on the administration’s requests for data from roughly 30 states and D.C. It adds to a series of court rulings that have limited federal efforts to access or centralize state voter rolls and related personal data.
