A United Airlines flight arriving from Italy struck a light pole above the New Jersey Turnpike while on final approach to Newark Liberty International Airport, dislodging the pole onto a tractor-trailer below. The truck driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries; there were no reported serious injuries among passengers. The incident, which caused ground-vehicle damage but limited aircraft harm, joins other recent landing collisions in the New York–area and is likely to draw attention from investigators reviewing approach and surface-safety procedures.
