
General Motors has cut roughly 600 salaried IT employees—more than 10% of its IT organization—while saying it will replace many roles with hires that have stronger AI, data and cloud skills. The company describes the changes as a deliberate skills swap to prioritize AI-native development, data engineering and analytics, cloud engineering, agent and model development, prompt engineering and new AI workflows. While this is part of a cost-control and workforce reevaluation, shifting talent toward AI and software could accelerate some initiatives but also introduce execution risk and timing uncertainty for software- and EV-related programs. Investors will likely consider these changes when assessing near-term expenses, margins and guidance.
