Kilauea's summit in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was closed and evacuations were ordered after a powerful eruption and an accompanying rock storm sent tephra and debris into the air, creating hazardous conditions. Park managers directed visitors and staff out of summit areas while assessing hazards, damage and potential ash impacts downwind. This activity comes alongside other recent geothermal incidents in U.S. parks, such as the renewed eruption of Yellowstone’s Echinus Geyser, though the events are separate and geographically distant.
