Scientists report that combining two existing drugs dramatically reduced liver fat in animal models of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and improved markers of liver health. The aging-activated belly-fat stem cell discovery points to shared mechanisms driving age-related fat accumulation in liver and abdomen, suggesting combination drug approaches might be complemented by therapies targeting those stem cells. These are preclinical results that will require clinical trials to confirm safety and effectiveness in people.
