Cooper Flagg of the Dallas Mavericks has been named the NBA Rookie of the Year, edging former Duke teammate Kon Knueppel of the Charlotte Hornets. Flagg became the first rookie since Michael Jordan in 1984–85 to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists and steals, setting several records for an NBA teenager despite Dallas having a down season. Kon Knueppel was a driving force in Charlotte’s 25‑win improvement, but Flagg’s across‑the‑board statistical dominance secured him the award and closes out the Rookie of the Year outcome from this season’s awards cycle that also featured honors like the Defensive Player of the Year.
