The American Cancer Society has for the first time added a blood-based test to its recommended colorectal cancer screening options. The test is intended as an additional screening choice to expand access and participation, not to replace colonoscopy. This change comes as colorectal cancer rates and deaths are rising in younger adults and amid growing research into biological drivers such as the microbiome and tissue changes. The new option may help reach people who avoid or delay colonoscopy, but follow-up diagnostic testing and equitable access will remain essential.
