A clinical study found that a single ketamine infusion followed by low-dose buprenorphine produced significant, sustained reductions in suicidal ideation in adults with major depressive disorder. The finding suggests a promising rapid-acting treatment option for people at imminent risk, who often cannot wait weeks for traditional antidepressants to work. This result complements recent government and research activity accelerating study of psychedelic and other fast-acting psychiatric drugs, and could influence trial priorities and access policies for breakthrough mental-health therapies.
