Harold Allen died suddenly at his home in Freetown, Indiana, just days before Christmas 2022. Nine months later, a burglary at his house prompted investigators to reopen the case and led to a murder investigation after evidence indicated he had been poisoned via a root beer float. This U.S. homicide echoes other poisoning and food-tampering incidents abroad, including a recent Austrian case where rat poison was placed in jars of baby food as part of an alleged blackmail attempt. The incidents are separate and there is no indication they are connected.
