
A detainee being treated at Swedish Hospital opened fire while in custody, killing a Chicago police officer and critically wounding another before escaping, prompting a manhunt and scrutiny of hospital security. Federal prosecutors later charged a person in connection with the purchase of the firearm used in the shooting, expanding the investigation into possible straw purchasing.
