Researchers at Southern Methodist University and the Perot Museum, alongside colleagues at other institutions, have identified a new species of mosasaur — a large marine lizard that lived alongside dinosaurs. Coverage describes the animal as a 'T. rex of the sea,' consistent with reports identifying a roughly 43-foot Tylosaurus rex with powerful jaws and serrated teeth. The discovery strengthens evidence that late Cretaceous seas hosted multiple large predators and improves understanding of mosasaur diversity in what is now Texas.
