Text messages have surfaced showing Rep. Tony Gonzales sent sexually explicit messages to a congressional staffer while he was under an Office of Congressional Conduct inquiry into an alleged affair with that staffer, who later died by suicide. Those revelations damaged his standing and pushed him into a May 26 runoff against Brandon Herrera. Newly reported 2020 texts showing Gonzales asked a subordinate for nude photos and sex suggest earlier instances of similar conduct and have intensified scrutiny as the House Ethics Committee pursues a formal investigation.
