Earlier WHO figures of roughly 900 suspected cases and over 200 suspected deaths highlighted rapid spread; subsequent regional reports have indicated even larger suspected totals. The new confirmed-case update of at least 282 in eastern DR Congo demonstrates a growing number of laboratory-confirmed infections amid a much larger pool of suspected cases, complicating clinical response for the Bundibugyo strain.
