While returning from their lunar flyby, the Artemis II astronauts proposed personal names for two lunar features, echoing an Apollo-era tradition of naming landmarks after loved ones. Those naming proposals accompanied the crew’s scientific work and photographic observations during the mission, and the crew was later honored at a homecoming in Houston following splashdown. The gesture added a human, ceremonial note to a mission that also delivered significant engineering and scientific returns.
