Severe flooding and storm conditions forced thousands to evacuate and led to more than 230 rescues, with enormous damage to airports, schools, roads, hospitals and homes. Officials also warn that as floodwaters moved toward the ocean, beaches around the islands may have unsafe, contaminated water, and visitors entering the ocean risk exposure despite reopened beaches. Emergency services continue response and recovery efforts across the state.
