
Officials issued immediate evacuation orders for Waialua and Haleiwa because of rising water at the Wahiawa Dam and extremely dangerous flooding downstream. The evacuation orders accompanied reports of muddy floodwaters overturning vehicles and damaging homes. Follow-up reporting indicates thousands were evacuated statewide, more than 230 people have been rescued, and the storm caused significant damage to airports, schools, roads, hospitals and homes as emergency teams continue rescue and assessment operations.
