Amazon has ended support today for first- and second-generation Kindles and Kindle Fire tablets, including the Kindle Touch, the 9.7-inch Kindle DX, and other devices released in 2012 or earlier. Affected devices lose access to the Kindle Store and new cloud content, though owners can still read books already downloaded to their devices. Some users are resorting to jailbreaking to sideload content or restore functionality. This move confirms earlier reporting that Amazon planned to cut off older Kindle hardware.
