Microsoft unveiled Scout at Build 2026 as a new personal AI assistant that brings OpenClaw-style agent flexibility into Microsoft 365 to automate multi-step tasks across Office apps. Internal testing of a wearable access badge and a small desk cube suggests the company may extend Scout beyond software into dedicated hardware, making agent features available through always-on devices. Newly disclosed planning documents also reveal a retention-first strategy to “make people addicted” to Scout before expanding features, a tactic likely to raise ethical and regulatory concerns about user engagement, privacy, and safety.
