The FDA has approved Foundayo, a once-daily oral GLP-1 pill to treat obesity, giving patients an alternative to injectable treatments and increasing competition in the market. Genetic findings that gut-hormone variation affects response to GLP-1s suggest clinicians may eventually use genetic or other biomarkers to guide whether a patient is better suited to oral versus injectable formulations or particular dosing strategies.
